Impact Hub at COP29

Welcome to the World Climate Impact Hub at COP29

World Climate Impact Hub is the meeting point of negotiations and actions, to further build “Coalitions of the Ambitious” across public-private sectors – inspired by creative networking and innovative solutions to climate change. At COP29, World Climate Impact Hub will bring together a series of sessions, strategic insights and curated networking across the Blue Zone, Green Zone and relevant side events, aimed at driving climate action and fostering sustainable development. This concept integrates diverse but targeted sectors and stakeholders, facilitating knowledge exchange and fostering innovation to address the global climate crisis comprehensively.

Thematic Areas

World Climate Impact Hub will cover a number of thematic areas at COP29, including finance, energy, innovation, health, nature, transport and the built environment. Central to this effort are the Climate Investment Coalition (CIC) and the Nature Investment Coalition (NIC), which play pivotal roles in mobilising resources and expertise to address climate change. The Climate Investment Coalition focuses on harnessing financial markets, and investment flows to fund climate resilience, mitigation and innovation. The Nature Investment Coalition, on the other hand, underscores the importance of preserving and enhancing natural ecosystems as integral components of climate solutions.

Sustainable Cities of the Future: How public-private partnerships in technology can support positive environmental and social outcomes

Join ServiceNow executives in discussion about the critical role of integrating AI and data-driven solutions in the building of people-first, smart cities of the future.  Cities and urban landscapes designed to combat and alleviate the impacts of climate change are vital, but these environments must also be equitable for the people who live there. Panelists will discuss the intersection of the environmental and social principles of ESG alongside Thomas Debass, Deputy Special Representative for Global Partnerships, at the US State Department. Their conversation will detail the importance of public-private partnerships in a just transition for urban areas in an era dominated by climate risk and mitigation.

Catalysing Climate Finance via Public-Private Partnerships: Perspective from Asia

Climate finance plays a vital role in driving the global low-carbon transition. Reflecting this year’s “Finance COP” theme, there is an urgent need to expand climate finance on a global scale to accelerate the low carbon transformation across more markets. Asia’s role in this process is crucial due to the region’s substantial economic and population growth, along with a significant reliance on fossil fuels and hard-to abate sectors. This dependency also underscores Asia’s potential to emerge as a model in global climate finance by expanding financial support and fostering innovative investment tools to expedite the transition both from the public and public sectors.

However, this structural transformation demands groundbreaking changes. By adopting innovative financial models and tools, alongside close public-private partnerships, we can create financial solutions that multiply the low-carbon capital. The question remains: How can we accelerate the development of these solutions? What challenges do we face? How can we foster more effective public-private partnerships? And how can we replicate successful cases? This event aims to address these questions, leveraging the unique opportunity at COP to inspire Asia with insights gained through international discussion.

Meeting Demand to Achieve Net Zero: Unlocking Finance to Scale Rapid, Responsible Critical Mineral Production

The energy transition is at risk. To meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, the world needs to rapidly transition toward a low-carbon economy. This transition is reliant on critical minerals and metals, essential for a range of multi-scale clean energy, low-carbon technologies, but production is not on track to meet demand (even when factoring reductions in forecast from efficiency gains and recycling). Investment is not happening at the scale or pace required, with a series of burgeoning finance gaps, caused by macro exogenous shocks and systemic challenges, stalling progress. Collaborative action is required. Banks and investors need to work differently with industry and policy makers to solve for systemic challenges. This session will convene key actors across the Critical Minerals Ecosystem, to discuss key imperatives and near-term, tactical actions to overcome chokepoints and unlock financing.

Championing Biodiversity Metrics & Cross-Sector Integration - MOU Signing: NTEUF, BioPlus & World Climate Foundation

As biodiversity loss continues to be a pressing global issue, it is imperative to develop scientifically grounded methods to monitor, report, and verify biodiversity metrics. NTUEF, with over 120 years of experience and research data on nature and ecosystems, is committed to developing biodiversity-related methodologies, indices, and metrics. These efforts aim to serve as a foundation for a comprehensive biodiversity credit scheme. BioPlus, specializing in biodiversity facilitation, works to integrate Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), academic institutions, and business sectors across Asia in biodiversity conservation efforts. The World Climate Foundation, a significant global climate and biodiversity platform, is dedicated to promoting global sustainability initiatives and has agreed to collaborate with NTUEF and BioPlus to support the NTUEF biodiversity credit scheme and BioPlus integration efforts.
The MOU signing marks the formal commitment of NTUEF, BioPlus, and the World Climate Foundation to champion biodiversity metrics and facilitate cross-sector integration.
